Broder cafe

I mentioned it a few posts back, but I think Broder is one of my favorite restaurant in town, and I finally remembered to snap a few pictures last time I was there. I love the inside, it's just the right mix of new and old fashioned, and of course the food is excellent. I usually get a baked scramble in a tiny skillet. On monday it was pouring outside and so cozy inside, it was perfect.

Mazurka

Look at this loveliness I get to see out my window. I am missing the warm weather of a few days ago though. I don't mind the rain I'm just tired of being cold. Today was quite a dreary time, but I combated doldrums by watching beautiful and strange Russian animation and sketching. Tomorrow I have delicious brunch times with friends and an artsy hang out planned, so Monday can't get me down even if it is chilly.

Ally Flowers

I have a lot of little projects in the works right now, this drawing is part of one. I am very, very, busy lately, which is great, I love to be busy. It can make me feel downtrodden sometimes though, I feel like I'm working a lot without getting much done, it's amazing how days can fly by! It's important to take breaks. The other day I took some time to make these amazing things with a friend, and I highly recommend them if you're in the mood for baking.

Tiny

I just sent these pieces off to Gallery Meltdown for a show of "tiny" work, everything has to be under three inches. I love the fancy man in the round frame.

Sweetness and Tart

It's been a wonderful week for food in general and breakfast in particular, Monday I went to Broder and Saturday I went to Screen Door, both are delicious! I need to take a picture of the inside of Broder though because it's adorable.
Also my friend Sarah and I used our preserved lemons for the first time to make a pizza topping with some success. I'd like to try some store bought ones just to compare, but I think ours taste pretty good!

I like...

I started this funny drawing last summer and just finished it the other day. When I sketched it out it was really hot and all I wanted all the time was some refreshing ginger beer.

Encounters

A new spirit/demon drawing,

I watched Werner Herzog's Encounters at the End of the World last night. Like all his films it was amazing. This recording of seals calling under the ice is just mesmerizing:

At the end of the film someone said a quote that I loved "Through our eyes, the universe is perceiving itself. Through our ears, the universe is listening to its harmonies. We are the witnesses through which the universe becomes conscious of its glory, of its magnificence."

New Website Hooray!!

My website has just had a much needed makeover! I am so happy with it (thank you so much Tara!). It will be much easier now to add work to and keep updated and alive. It's such a relief to have everything is nicely organized, plus there is a super easy way to contact me directly, links to most of the relevant places to find me on the web, and links to my new shop and this blog, of course. This is such an improvement I feel like a weight has been lifted and my site is relevant again!
Please take a look and let me know what you think!

Postcard ect.

Remember those chickadees I was working on? This is the finished version, which is going to be part of a promo postcard, with the chickadees on the back. I've yet to really pick a front picture for it, but I think it will be the girl with a mysterious light drawing, maybe??

I originally did this magpie drawing to be on the front, but I felt like it was just too many branches all over the place. (It ended up being something of a sister to this guy. I like it much better though. I like bringing little touches of black into my drawings lately.)

I liked this window display downtown.
The giant antique expo is tomorrow! I'm so excited, old things are so much better than new things!

Fern craze

Some sketches and a beautiful tree in front of my apartment.

Also, if you're interested, I've started a page for my artwork on facebook. I'd love it if you became a fan!.
