Travel Log pt.2: Wood Sorrel

wood-sorel3 One of my favorite parts about the Northwest and the redwood forest is the redwood sorrel, those are the little clover looking plants that cover the forest floor out here.
As we were driving South we found the most magical spot by the side of the road where the sorrel was in these beautiful clumps and waves. Some of these are from there, and some are from the Founder Grove.
We found that Grimes was the best soundtrack to driving though the redwoods.

Vacation

Magnolia Harvest

Another new piece, "Magnolia Harvest".

I wanted to remind you that my show at Tilde is coming down at the end of this month, so if you've had your eye on a piece, don't wait! It's only going to be up for another week or so.

I'm off to California for a little vacation & camping! I'm not even taking my computer! It's going to feel great. I'll be back in a week with lots to share I'm sure.

Work For Others: Wedding invite for John & Heidi

John & Heidi's Wedding Invite
I'm happy I can finally show you this wedding invite I was working on a few months ago. I've done quite a few now and I think this may be my favorite yet!
As usual I just provided the artwork and they took care of the printing themselves, which I think turned out particularly well this time. A nice paper can make all the difference with how the finished piece looks.

I actually love doing wedding invites, so if you have a big day coming up & you think you might be interested in getting a quote, get in touch! (My email is on the sidebar of my blog.)

Work For Others: Photography Logo

Naomi Ernest Logo
I finished this logotype a while ago for Naomi Ernest, a photographer in Michigan. She wanted her logo to have the name of her business to use on letterhead & watermarks, and also to have a little animal image of some sort to use on stickers and such for packaging. We went with a fox because, well I guess I'm kind of known for them, but also because she has a fox family living behind her house. I can't wait to see how she uses the logo!

Star Gazing

Blanket
This is another new piece from my Lille show. I'm particularly happy with how that lacy blanket turned out! I did a quick sketch of the idea for this after seeing a lacy crochet blanket on Pinterest, but I kind of thought that I probably wouldn't turn it into a drawing because actually drawing all that detail would probably just turn into a mess and come out looking horrible. But I did a little test drawing and that looked okay, so I kept adding to it and voila! It's one of my favorite pieces from the show.

In exactly one week Aradan and I are heading down to California, I'm so excited! We're going to Redwood National Park and Point Reyes, and some other points in between. We're also going to spend a day in San Francisco (yay!). We're going to be camping most of the time, so I hope to be spending lots of time wrapped in a blanket by a fire, reading, with a (ginger)beer in my hand. Oh and if anyone has any hot tips on the best places to camp in those areas I'd be most grateful for the advise!

Lemon Tree

Tending 2
Tending 1
Two more pieces from my show at Tilde. I believe the lemon tree is sold already but the other is still available.

I feel the need to acknowledge the passing yesterday of Maurice Sendak. He has been one of my favorite artists and an inspiration since I was small, and while I'm saddened by his death I'm happy that he lived such a long life and left us so much amazing work. In the past few years I've found not just his work but reading and listing to interviews with him to be really comforting and refreshing. I loved his honestly about life and what is important. His last interview with Terry Gross is a good example of that, it had me in tears.

Springtime Delights

wild-greens
Farmers market haul from last weekend: Sea Beans, Ramps, and Nettles.
Ramps
Dish with baked ramps, orzo, and a poached egg. I'm still dreaming about it.
baggus
I've been on something of a bag shopping spree lately. Here are all the bags and pouches I've collected over the past few months. I looove my Baggus, I can't believe it took me so long to get a few, they're so useful and attractive.
bluebellls1
bluebells2
The bluebells are fading now but they were wonderful while they lasted

I think this is kind of neat;  Bee Local honey uses honey collected from beehives located in different neighborhoods in Portland. There is a Mt. Tabor one, a Lauralhurst one, etc. Supposedly they all have their own character. I love that idea. I'd like to try the Mt. Tabor honey since that's near where I used to live and I'm fond of the neighborhood.
